Did you know we host online divorce resource groups that are free to attend, and everyone is welcome? Check out the links in our show notes. And be sure and join us. We love bringing experts to you, please refer to our terms of service available on our website, divorce magazine canada.com. And stay tuned at the end for the legal language. Ready? Here we go. Hey, everybody, thank you so much for tuning in to the divorce magazine, Canada podcast. It's me, Deena, the host of this new show that's been around for a few months already. And it all started with the divorce magazine, Canada. So that's a publication that's been around for 10 years. And the 11th issue just came out this spring. And I came on board in December. So I am the new owner and publisher of this magazine. And if you want to hear a little bit more about that, you can catch the very first episode, where I explain a little bit more about where it started. Now you can get your hands on a hard copy of this magazine, in local stores, I'll just grab a copy here should have had it handy already. For anybody who's watching the video on YouTube. Take a look, this is what it looks like divorce magazine, Canada. And this is an annual publication. It comes out every beginning of the year, and is a resource of local businesses and organizations who do support people through divorce or separation in all different areas. And you will find that many of these topics are covered in the podcast as well. So I'm talking about everything that is affected during a separation divorce, and anybody who's been there or is there now knows, it'll hit you everywhere. all areas of your health, whether it's mental, physical, financial, sexual, legal, social, it can be all of those things. And I really want to bring the people to you who can give you the help and assistance to navigate that because you aren't alone in this. Yes, I'm sure you're aware lots of other people have been through it. But what about the professionals that can help you? There's a lot of them out there that maybe you didn't even know existed. I know that was my case, there were I didn't realize there were mediators, divorce coaches, people who specialized in the real estate, financial advice sector, even as far as like abuse, and getting support and help because one in three people, at least that we are aware of, are also dealing with abusive situations. Now, the plan is originally to have an episode out to you once a week. And I've just had so many incredible guests step forward and offer their expertise or their wisdom or their guidance or their stories that I've been able to do more than once a week. I don't know if that will continue. But for sure Friday mornings, there's going to be a new episode every week. And I'll be running right through summer, this is going to be year round. That's the plan. But for the time being, there will be at least two episodes a week. And that is just super exciting. I love that. And there are also other ways that you can see this, you can find this podcast so you can obviously hear it on all your favorite players as an audio, but there's also a video component that is on our YouTube channel. Both of the podcasts, audio and video are embedded and linked in our homepage on the website. So that's a quick easy link as well that you can find it and it's updated with every new episode. So that's pretty cool. Also on the website are all kinds of links to PDF downloadable data Multiple PDFs of the magazine pages. There's also the contacts for all of our team that are in the magazine, all the experts, there's a blog, there's articles there by a lot of these experts that give you information and support. There are also events, and they're all listed with direct links. So some of the events that we host, our free online divorce resource groups, and there's two different ones. There is one that is a learn. And there we have a keynote speaker. So the keynote speaker is going to address a certain topic, whatever their specialty might be, and it's an opportunity for you to learn. And kind of last by apparently, I don't know if this is still working my laptop or something. Again, I'm not sure what happened. That's just the fun, the little Gremlins that come up sometimes, when you're dealing with technology, okay, hopefully we didn't lose everything there in the middle. Now. The online divorce resource groups, so the Learn ones with a keynote speaker, it gives you an opportunity to meet, informally meet, ask questions of all these experts, it's a great opportunity to get to know them, and know what's out there and bring your questions. And if you are somebody who offers a service, it's an opportunity to meet the people who are out there looking for support, as well as network with the other professionals. Because you maybe have a client who needs a service that you don't offer. But you have met someone who does. And you've met them in these groups, you know that their heart is really a caring heart that wants to serve, and they happen to offer a service in the area that a client that you have, is looking for or needs support in. Now, what many of us new to the I didn't realize the high percentage of people experiencing divorce, the stats are, are saying that about 50% of marriages are ending in divorce. Now I do not condone divorce, that is not my purpose here, I want to make that disclaimer make that very clear. I'm not condoning divorce, we're not promoting it, we're not trying to encourage people to seek a divorce or a separation. Except for cases where there is abuse involved. Obviously, what I am offering by

sharing all these resources is to give people the support they need when they have made that decision. So that they aren't alone, they aren't struggling, they're not just doing a Google search, and hoping for the best and or maybe somebody had good luck with someone and it's maybe not the best fit for them. So just to let you know that there's a lot of options out there. That's the purpose behind that. Our other divorce resource group is also online, also free to the public, everybody's welcome to attend. And that's just a general connect. So in that we do have, some of our experts will attend. And it's just open to whoever shows up. We've had people in several meetings already attend from across the country as well. And that is, it's open to anybody. So even though this magazine is currently based in Canada, or in Alberta, Canada, it is going to expand across Canada. And it's open to anybody, these resources and the experts that are in there, many of them can serve outside of the province of Alberta. So I really encourage anybody who is listening who maybe thinks oh, it's just for Alberta, check us out and just pop in and meet, meet the people who are in these groups. The other group I have is the hope and how group. Now that is a women's support group related to divorce. And it's to really try and understand where you are right now. And how we can help you move forward and that you know what's out there for resources that you aren't alone that we've been there in, in our own experience, and we would like to help support you and encourage you. So if that pertains to you or someone you care about and you'd like to be able to support them better than please consider joining us for the hope and help group as well. Now what's really cool about doing a podcast is I can add episodes and series and get creative with what I put out there. So Some of the series that I have planned are divorce diaries. So those are gonna be candid conversations with people sharing their experience of divorce. And whether it's as a child of a divorced family and their experience, or somebody who's been through it themselves. These are going to be interesting conversations, it's people who've been there. This is what they know, this is what they've experienced. And they're being real and vulnerable in sharing, with the hope that it will support someone out there who's listening, and they will feel less alone and know that there's people that care, I also am going to have bite sized bits of information, tips encouragement from a variety of people relating to communication, to finances. Youth, many different areas of what I mentioned before of your health, or your concerns related to real estate, whatever it might be, there are going to be some little bite sized ones coming up too. So if you just have a few minutes, you're just take the dog out for a quick pee, or you're putting on your makeup or you are waiting at the school to pick up the kids and you've just have, you know, 10 minutes or something, we're going to try and keep those as nice little bite size bits. So instead of just fire hosing you with all this information in every single episode, try and break it down a little bit into some, some little action based or some encouraging words and give you something to digest a little differently in in a short period of time. Another new thing are some new social media accounts. So we're on LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, please connect with us there and follow up and you will hear what's new, and see what we're up to, as well subscribe to the mailing list, because then you will get a direct message in your inbox telling you hey, there's a new episode out or this is something else we're doing, there's an event coming up whatever it might be, and it won't be often not getting spam your inbox, but you'll definitely then be the first to know and keep these very informative, and to the point. So I know my inbox is, well I have more than one, I have kind of lost count, I think I've got like four mailbox or email inboxes that I actually check every day four or five. And I actually ended up turning the notifications off on my phone, because that red dot was never gonna go away, I just finally admitted this just never going to go away, the number would creep up, it would go down. I think I got it 231 time, but it's kind of my to do list. So if anybody feels they want to jump in and tell me that they can help me to sort it. I already have tried that route. And it feels uncomfortable, because I don't know where I don't like an empty inbox that's like my running to do list. But anyways, I do respect the amount of emails that people deal with in a day. So love to have you on the mailing list, I promise I won't overdo that and take advantage of that direct access to, to sending you messages. We also have a symposium coming up in the fall, September 26, there is a lineup of speakers that will be presenting that's online as well, easily accessible. Hope you join us for that tickets are already available. Everything that we offer is free to you. It's it's supported by all the generous people that have contributed to the magazine and make that free to you. They care the magazine is is very informative and very supportive. And they also help keep the cost down for everything else that we offer. The tickets are only $25 to the symposium up until I think September 15. And then they go up to 35. So very reasonable access to a lot of experts. And again, it'll be on Zoom, and it'll be online, obviously. Join us for that and the magazine, grab your copy. It's also like I said, available online. And check out our YouTube channel, subscribe to that. And then you can see our guests. It'll be just like sitting in a Zoom meeting and I know yes, we're all zoomed out and just like oh my god not I don't want to sit and spend my time looking at my resume. However, you don't need to participate in those. It's just a way that you can meet The speaker instead of only hearing it as an audio on the podcast. Now where can you find the hardcopy of this magazine? So I have a list here of some of the places that you can find it now it's distributed mostly in Edmonton, Alberta and Edmonton. Yes, Alberta DHA, Edmonton, Calgary and red deer and surrounding communities around those communities. And some of the typical places you'll find it is grocery stores and banks like IGA Italian center, BMO rec centers, LRTs and transit stations, coops library Freshco wine and beyond. Walmart Superstore, shoppers Sobeys, save on Safeway, London Drugs, waves, coffee houses, some of those places. So where it's displayed is not where you buy magazines, you're going to find it where the free magazines are displayed, where those types of handouts and freebies are. So it's complimentary to you. And please show your appreciation by letting letting any of these businesses know if you happen to deal with them. Please let them know how much you appreciate them supporting this. The other thing that I really love about this divorce magazine is that it's opening those conversations naturally, about abuse as well, because that's really where my heart is. And that's who I really want to help with what I'm doing. So we already know half the population is dealing with divorce. That does not even include the common law relationships. So you can easily estimate that it's even higher than that. Now, in second or third or subsequent marriages, the rate is apparently even higher than the 50% of first marriages. So of that, if you consider a third of those people are all at least are also dealing with in abusive and unsafe situations. That's a significant number of people. So this magazine, has opened many conversations, and allowed people to then share the need, or the fact that they are someone who supports others with this. So it's very important that

if you are feeling like you're ready to make a change, whether it's involving abuse or not, that you are not alone. It's very important that you know that there are people out there who care and want to help you. And that is my whole purpose behind this.
